Women’s Volleyball Falls to Emerson College, 3-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Elms College sophomore setter Shannon Bolton (Shelton, Conn.) dished out 13 assists and sophomore outside hitter Alexandra Mack (Wilbraham, Mass.) downed a team-best four kills, but Emerson College used nine kills from Kat Westbrook (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) and eight from Julianna Augustine (Skaneateles, N.Y.) to help the Lions stake a 3-0 (25-15, 25-9, 25-13) sweep of the Blazers in day one action of the Western New England University women's volleyball invitational at AHLC Field House in Springfield, Mass.

With the loss, Elms falls to 0-4 on the season, while Emerson improves to 3-1 overall.

Junior middle hitter JC Pickett (Chicopee, Mass.) and sophomore middle hitter Joanna Krupa (Chicopee, Mass.) chipped in three kills each in the losing effort and Pickett led the Blazers with seven digs, followed by six digs from junior opposite hitter Christine Searles (Tolland, Mass.).

Emerson hit .353 as a team led by an 18 assist effort from Giuli Frendak (Warrington, Pa.) and 13 helpers from Juliana Tucker (Encino, Calif.). Jamie Morgan (Maple Glen, Pa.) was a force on defense notching a match-high 19 digs.

Kat Rice (Delmar, N.Y.) added seven kills and three service aces.

Elms will square off against host Western New England on Saturday, September 7 at 11:00 a.m. and will conclude tournament action at 1:00 p.m. with a showdown against Western Connecticut State University.
