Women's Volleyball Falls to Westfield State University, 3-1

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Elms College junior middle hitter JC Pickett (Chicopee, Mass.) floored a team-high nine kills and sophomore setter Shannon Bolton (Shelton, Conn.) dished out 14 assists, but Westfield State University posted a 3-1 (25-19, 16-25, 25-12, 25-18) victory in Wednesday evening's non-conference women's volleyball contest in Westfield, Mass.

With the loss, Elms falls to 0-7 on the season, while Westfield State, which defeated the Blazers in the season opener at the Blazer Challenge, improves to 5-3 on the season.

Pickett added a service ace and five digs, while Bolton notched a pair of digs, an assisted block and served up four aces in the losing effort.

Senior opposite hitter Rachel Cowan (Ellington, Conn.) chipped in three kills, one solo block, six digs, an ace and an assist, and junior middle hitter Christine Searles (Tolland, Mass.) added three service aces, an assisted block and three kills. 

Junior libero Caitlyn Larvey (Greenfield, Mass.) contributed a team-high seven digs, a service ace and one kill for Elms in the loss.

The Blazers return to action on Friday, September 13 at the two-day Best Western Cardinal Classic Volleyball tournament hosted by Plattsburgh State University.
