Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Past Pine Manor College, 3-0
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Elms College junior middle hitter Christine Searles (Tolland, Mass.) smashed a match-high seven kills and junior libero Caitlyn Larvey (Greenfield, Mass.) notched a team-best 12 digs to help pace the Blazers to a 3-0 (25-9, 25-13, 25-17) sweep of Pine Manor College in Wednesday evening's non-conference women's volleyball match.
Elms has now won three straight matches to improve to 4-10 overall. Pine Manor remains winless at 0-9 on the season.
Searles led the offensive output with her seven kills, followed by five from junior middle hitter JC Pickett (Chicopee, Mass.) who also collected six digs. Senior opposite hitter Rachel Cowan (Ellington, Conn.) added three kills and eight digs, while sophomore setters Shannon Bolton (Shelton, Conn.) and Kelly Melanson (Waltham, Mass.) added eight and five assists respectively.
Pickett, Cowan and freshman defensive specialist Carolyn Campbell (Millers Falls, Mass.) combined for 10 of the Blazers' 13 service aces and freshman setter Alicia Beaupre (Belchertown, Mass.) registered three assists.
Sophomore middle hitter Joanna Krupa (Chicopee, Mass.) and Pickett each had a solo block in the win.
Pine Manor was led by Phalogne Pierre (Boston, Mass.) who totaled five kills while Destiny Mann (Orlando, Fla.) secured 12 digs in the losing effort.
Setter Alexis Bushika (Adams, Mass.) dished out a match-best nine assists while Carline Kirksey (Lawrence, Mass.) chipped in seven digs for the Gators.
Elms returns to action on Tuesday, October 1 with its New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) opener at Southern Vermont College at 7:00 p.m. in Bennington, Vt.
