Niah Pantry Nabs Fourth NECC Player of the Week Honor

ATTLEBORO, Mass. -- For the second week in a row, Elms College junior forward Niah Pantry (New Haven, Conn.) picked up New England Collegiate Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors. Pantry earned the recognition on Monday after averaging 22.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game during the week of Jan. 22-28.

Pantry began the week with a 26-point, 11-rebound double-double in a 69-49 win over Wheelock. She hit 12-of-20 shots (60.0 percent) from the field and rejected three shots to lead the Blazers to their fifth win in six games.

Pantry followed up that performance with another double-double, finishing with 19 points and 13 boards in a 68-63 loss at Dean.

The back-to-back double-doubles were the eighth and ninth of the season for Pantry, reaching the milestone in four of her last five games. She has grabbed 10 or more rebounds in five straight games, and is averaging 14.6 points and 11.6 rebounds per game this season while shooting 46.7 percent from the field.

It is the fourth Player of the Week honor this season for Pantry, who was also recognized by the NECC on Dec. 5, Dec. 12 and Jan. 22.

Pantry and the Blazers will step outside of NECC play on Monday night, visiting Bridgewater State before returning home on Feb. 3 to host Newbury College.
