Becker Uses Big Second Half To Snap Blazer Women's Basketball Win Streak

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Elms College women's basketball team couldn't overcome a second-half surge from Becker in a 59-47 road loss on Saturday afternoon.

The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for the Blazers, who drop to 5-9 overall and 4-4 in New England Collegiate Conference play. Becker improves to 9-7 overall and 5-3 in the NECC with the win.

Through 20 minutes, the Blazers and Hawks played to a 20-20 tie. Becker, however, was able to take advantage of a flurry of Blazer fouls in the third quarter to gain some separation. The Hawks converted all eight of their free throw attempts in the third quarter, capitalizing on seven Elms fouls, to take a 42-35 lead into the fourth quarter. The Hawks then scored the first seven points of the fourth to take a 14-point lead.

Blazer senior Mackenzie Larochelle led Elms with 10 points. Niah Pantry grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds and came up two points shy of her third consecutive double-double, finishing with eight.

Adrianna Dowdy led the way for Becker, finishing with 15 points and 19 rebounds. Sarah Ware added a game-high 16 points for the Hawks and Cassidy Harrison added 14.

Elms shot just 29 percent from the field in the game, while Becker shot 36 percent. Each team finished with 42 rebounds, but Becker forced 18 Blazer turnovers while committing just 13.

The Blazers will be back at home on Jan. 23 to host Wheelock in NECC action. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
