Women’s Basketball Loses Heartbreaker to Becker in Overtime

 

CHICOPEE, Mass- Sophomore guard Molly Moulton (North Adams, Mass) hit the game tying shot with 3 seconds lefts in the second half to send the game to overtime, but the Blazers fell to the Hawks in Overtime 76-69. The game started out even and defensively sound for both teams. Niah Pantry (New Haven, CT) started the scoring for the blazers who lead 12-9 at the end of the first quarter.

The Blazers and Hawks continued to battle in the second quarter. The game went into halftime with the Blazers taking the lead 33-31 with Sarah Clarks (Weare, NH) buzzer beating layup. The Blazers started out hot after halftime ended and took a convincing 46-35 lead with 5:27 left in the third quarter. Elms went on a 9-4 run to end the third quarter strong and lead 53-41 going into the fourth. The tide turned in favor of the Hawks in the fourth quarter with Becker taking a 60-56 lead with 3:11 left in the quarter. Elms battled back to make to make the game 64-66 after Samantha Lynes (Berlin, CT) made her foul shots. Moulton sent the game to overtime with her game tying shot with 3 seconds left and Becker could not convert on the other end to win the game.

The Overtime started with Moulton giving Elms the 68-66 lead, but Becker went on a 4-1 run to win the game 76-69.

Pantry led the Blazers with a team high 19 points and 13 rebounds while adding a steal. Molly Moulton contributed 14 points and 2 rebounds. Mackenzie Lacrochelle (Chicopee, Mass) and Regina Leblanc (Enfield, CT) both added 10 points. Ciarra McKissick (Charlton, MA) led the Hawks with 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals. Adrianna Dowdy (East Haven, CT) contributed 16 points and 10 rebounds in her double-double effort.

The Blazers shot 41.4% from the field on 24-58 and 2-12 behind the arc. The Hawks hit 40.4% on 23-57 and 3-12 from behind the arc.

The Blazers fall to 1-5 while Becker improves to 3-3. The Blazers travels to Wheelock on Wednesday December 6.
