Women's Basketball Runs Out Of Time At Dean

FRANKLIN, Mass. – Despite a ferocious fourth quarter from the Blazers, the Elms College women's basketball team fell to Dean, 68-63 on Saturday.

The Blazers (6-10, 5-5 New England Collegitae Conference) trailed 52-38 heading into the fourth quarter before outscoring the Bulldogs 25-16 in the final 10 minutes, but it wasn't quite enough. The loss is only the second in the last seven games for the Blazers.

Niah Pantry led Elms with 19 points and 13 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end. Mackenzie Larochelle added nine points, eight assists, and six rebounds, and Kayla Soto chipped in with 10 points off the bench.

Five Bulldogs scored in double figures to lead a balanced Dean (10-7, 7-2 NECC) attack. Morgan Turner had 13 points and eight rebounds for Dean while Shannon Rosensteel finished with 10 points and 10 boards. Nicole Romero added 13 points for the home team, Sophia Church had 11, and Emma Morrison contributed 10.

Dean shot 44.2 percent from the field and converted 22-of-29 free throw attempts to overcome the fact that Elms attempted 19 more shots than the Bulldogs. The Blazers picked up 19 offensive rebounds and finished with a 41-38 rebounding advantage in the game, and also won the turnover battle, 20-15. Elms shot 36.6 percent from the field and went 9-of-13 at the free throw line.

The Blazers will visit Bridgewater State on Jan. 29 before returning home to defend their three-game home winning streak when Newbury College visits on Feb. 3. Dean will return to action Jan. 30 at Lesley.
