Women's Basketball Falls To Dean After Streaky Offensive Showing

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College women's basketball team suffered a 67-43 loss to Dean College on Sunday afternoon.

The Blazer offense came and went throughout the game and Elms couldn't contain the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter in the loss. Elms (8-12, 7-7 New England Collegiate Conference) jumped out to an early 10-4 lead but Dean (14-8, 11-2 NECC) went on a 16-2 run that lasted nearly 13 minutes and put the Bulldogs comfortably ahead.

After trailing by as many as 16 points in the third quarter, the Blazers went on a 13-0 run that extended into the fourth quarter and cut the deficit to just three points, 41-38. Dean, however, responded, outscoring Elms 26-5 over the final 8:15 to pick up the win.

Angelica Peguero-Flores (Springfield, Mass.) scored a team-high 10 points for Elms while Mackenzie Larochelle (Chicopee, Mass.) and Regina LeBlanc (Enfield, Conn.) added nine each. The Blazers shot 45.5 percent from the field in the second half and 35.4 percent for the game, but suffered 31 turnovers while Dean committed just 14. Dean owned a 38-5 advantage in points off turnovers in the game and outrebounded Elms 39-34.

Shannon Rosensteel (Sunrise, Fla.) led all scorers with 24 points for the Bulldogs, hitting 12-of-15 attempts. Iindia Pina (Carver, Mass.) added 16 points for Dean. Morgan Turner (Winter Park, Fla.) finished with seven points, eight boards and five assists. Dean shot 44.6 percent from the field in the game.

The Blazers will visit Bay Path on Feb. 13 before returning home for the final two games of the regular season, hosting St. Joseph (Conn.) on Feb. 15 and Southern Vermont on Feb. 17.
