BROOKLINE, Mass. – Niah Pantry came up one point shy of a double-double, finishing with nine points and 10 boards, but the Elms College women's basketball team fell at Newbury College, 79-40, on Saturday.
Pantry connected on five of her six free throw attempts and collected four of her 10 rebounds on the offensive end to lead the Blazers. Regina Leblanc scored a team-high 11 points and Mackenzie Larochelle added four points, three rebounds and three assists for the Blazers.
Elms drops to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in New England Collegiate Conference action with the loss, while Newbury improves to 7-6 overall and 4-1 in NECC play.
Newbury opened the game on a 7-0 run and maintained control throughout. Nighthawk junior Savannah Olsen tallied her 1,000th career point in the contest, and finished with a game-high 23 points.
Elms shot 23.7 percent (14-of-59) from the field while Newbury shot 47.4 percent (27-of-57). The Blazers controlled the glass, finishing with a 46-34 rebounding advantage, but committed 37 turnovers, leading to 36 Nighthawk points.
Elms returns to action on Jan. 8, hosting SUNY Cobleskill.
