Men’s Swimming Finishes Third At Vassar College Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Elms College junior Garrett Brune (Lakeville, Mass.) earned a pair of second place finishes as the men's swim team swam to a third place finish at Saturday afternoon's Vassar College Invitational at Kresge Pool.
Host Vassar scored 231 points to win the four-team invitational, while Skidmore College finished in a close second with 228 points. The Blazers registered 82 points, while College of Mount Saint Vincent rounded out the teams with a total of 46.
Brune glided to second place in both the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststroke events clocking times of 29.94 and 1:07.74 respectively.
Sophomore Mark Gehring (West Springfield, Mass.) touched the wall second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:16.04), while freshman Aaron Starke (Chicopee, Mass.) collected third place honors in the 50-yard freestyle registering a time of 24.03.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Gehring, freshman Jonathan Girard (West Springfield), junior Mike Desmond (Nashua, N.H.) and senior Nick Whitman (Florence, Mass.) recorded a third place finish with a time of 1:47.96.
Saturday's meet concluded the regular season for the Blazers. Elms is back in action on Friday, Feb. 18 for the start of the three-day New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships in White River Junction, Vt. Friday's action is set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
