Tyler, Soutra Compete in Massachusetts Senior Games

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Elms College head men’s and women’s swimming coach Bill Tyler and assistant coach Corey Soutra competed in the Massachusetts Senior Games hosted by Springfield College on Saturday, May 21.

The  Massachusetts Senior Games are for men and women age 50 and over and all participants compete in 5-year age groups. Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded in all events for all age groups.

Coach Tyler and Coach Soutra both swam in the 50-54 age group and each won all six events they competed in.

Coach Tyler won the 400-meter freestyle (5:35.43), the 100-meter butterfly (1:15.20), the 200-meter freestyle (2:34.18), the 50-meter butterfly (32.19), the 50-meter freestyle (28.59) and the 100-meter freestyle (1:07.22). All of his times qualified for the National Senior Games held on June 25-27 in Houston, Texas.

Coach Soutra placed first in the 100-meter backstroke (1:49.11), the 50-meter breaststroke (53.03), the 100-meter breaststroke (1:58.52), the 50-meter back stroke (49.88), the 50-meter freestyle (46.01) and the 200-meter backstroke (4:03.83). Her time of 53.03 in the 50-meter breaststroke narrowly missed the national cut.
