Men’s And Women’s Swimming Glide Past Colby-Sawyer

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College sophomore Tessa Dudunake (Northampton, Mass.) clocked a new school record and pool record in the 50-meter breaststroke, and freshman Keegan Goan (Westbrook, Maine) set a new school mark in the 50-meter butterfly to help the Blazers sweep Colby-Sawyer College in Saturday' men's and women's swim meet at Partyka Natatorium.

The men's team earned a 110-98 victory to move to 2-0 overall, while the women's team posted a 133-121 win to move to 3-1 on the season.

On the women's side, Dudunake's time of 36.63 in the 50-meter breaststroke broke her previous school record of 37:01 which she set earlier this season, and the pool record of 36.73 which was set by a swimmer from Manhattanville College in 2001. Dudunake also earned a victory in the 100-meter freestyle (1:06.50).

Freshman Ashley Kirchner (Dalton, Mass.) swam to a school record time of 32.59 in the 50-meter butterfly and won the 200-meter freestyle (2:25.03), 50-meter freestyle (29.61) and the 100-meter breaststroke (1:21.23).

Freshmen Julia Lane (West Springfield, Mass.) and Devon DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.) each finished first in two of their races as Lane won the 800-meter freestyle (11:14.38) and the 400-meter freestyle (5:22.33) while DeGrazia won the 50-meter and the 100-meter backstroke events with times of 33.55 and 1:12.79 respectively.

For the men, Goan registered a school record of 28.24 in the 50-meter butterfly and a top finish in the 50-meter backstroke (31.45).

Sophomore Mark Gehring (West Springfield, Mass.) won the 800-meter freestyle (9:48.27), the 200-meter freestyle (2:11.88), and the 400-meter freestyle (4:44.96), while senior Nick Whitman (Florence, Mass.), junior Garrett Brune (Lakeville, Mass.) and freshman Aaron Starke (Chicopee, Mass.) each notched two victories.

Whitman placed first in the 100-meter butterfly and the 100-meter backstroke  with times of 1:09.07 and 1:15.30 respectively, Starke claimed first in the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle events (26.76 and 59.99 respectively), and Brune earned top honors in the 50-meter and 100-meter breaststroke with times of 34.46 and 1:18.63.

Colby-Sawyer's Kat Donohue (Deep River, Conn.) won the 100-meter butterfly for the Chargers.

Elms' women's team returns to action on Dec. 4-5 at the two-day Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship, while the men's team returns to action on Dec. 11 when they host UMass-Dartmouth.
