Field Hockey Hosts Pilgrims in Final Home Contest of the Season

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Field Hockey team hosted New England College in a conference matchup at Leary Field Saturday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED

At the start of the first quarter, New England would take a shot in the opening minute, but it would be saved defensively by senior midfielder Nina Bourassa (West Springfield, Mass.). The Pilgrims would continue to create offensive pressure, the Blazers defense would hold strong blocking four shots and first-year goaltender Emily Hunt (Montrose, N.Y.) making three saves in the first quarter, but NEC would score twice during the opening quarter. The second quarter would see Hunt make an additional ten saves and the Elms defense causing one more blocked shot, but New England would add three more goals to their lead, to head into the halftime break up 5-0.

The Pilgrims would come out of the break again on the offensive, taking eight shots in the first three minutes of play, but Hunt and the Blazers defense would hold strong making five saves and two blocked shots, but the eighth shot would find its way to the back of the goal. The fourth quarter would see NEC score two more goals and two more saves by Hunt, but the Pilgrims would defeat the Blazers 8-0 in their final homestand of the 2024 season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

• Hunt would have 21 saves out of 29 shots on goal she faced.

• Bourassa recorded one defensive save for the Blazers.

• The Elms defense would block eight shots.
