Field Hockey Scores a Late Goal Against Dean on the Road

FRANKLIN, Mass. - The Elms College Field Hockey team traveled to Dean College for a conference matchup Tuesday afternoon.

BASICS
Score: Elms College 1 | Dean College 8
Records: Blazers 0-11, 0-7 (GNAC) | Bulldogs 6-7, 3-4 (GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

At the start of the first quarter, Dean College would have offensive possession with five shots. However, none of those shots went in because of Elm's defense having two team blocks, and one save by junior goalkeeper Katelyn Volk (Warwick, R.I.). Volk would have one more save before the Bulldogs would score two more goals, making it 3-0 at the end of the first quarter. When going into the second quarter, we would see a similar narrative where Dean would have two goals within the first couple of minutes. Volk would have two more saves. As well as the defense having another team block. The Bulldogs would have the lead 7-0, but the Blazers would keep their head up going into halftime.

Going into the third quarter, we would again see Dean dominate off the bat. Within the first four minutes of the quarter, first year goalkeeper Emily Hunt (Montrose, N.Y.) would have her first two saves of the game. Hunt would have two more saves, not allowing any goals in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Hunt would have another save and junior defender Elizabeth Franzoni (Rutland, Vt.) would have a defensive save. However, with five minutes left of the fourth quarter senior midfielder Nina Bourassa (West Springfield, Mass.) scored Elms first goal of the game, assisted by junior midfielder/defender Abbie Sierzego (South Hadley, Mass.). Siezego would have gotten one more shot before the end of the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, even with the one goal, Elms would fall short, and Dean would take home the win 8-1.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Volk and Hunt would have a combined nine saves for the game out of 17 shots.

  • Bourassa would have Elms first goal in seven games.

  • Franzoni would have one defensive save.
