Field Hockey Defeated by University of Saint Joseph in Conference Play

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Elms College Field Hockey traveled to University of Saint Joseph for a conference matchup Wednesday evening.

BASICS
Score: Elms College 0 | University of Saint Joseph, Conn. 8
Records: Blazers 0-9, 0-5 (GNAC) | Blue Jays 7-4, 4-2 (GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Saint Joesph would come out of the gate with two shots within the first two minutes of the first quarter. However, they were both stopped by first-year goaltender Emily Hunt (Montrose, N.Y.). Hunt would have two more big saves before the Blue Jays would have their second goal of the quarter. To end the first quarter, Hunt would have one more save. At the start of the second quarter, we would see the same narrative as the first quarter where USJ would score within 30 seconds of the second quarter. Hunt would have a total of 3 saves in the second quarter. The Blazers would play strong on defense but were not able to have offensive possession in the first half. The Blue Jays would have the lead 6-0, but Elms would keep their heads up going into the halftime break.

Going into the third quarter, we would again see a similar narrative, where Saint Joseph would have offensive domination. However, even with the 8 shots that the Blue Jays made, Hunt and the Blazers defense would dominate. Hunt would have a total of 5 saves in the third quarter. At the start of the fourth quarter, Hunt would make a big save before USJ scored once again. However, that was the only goal of the fourth quarter because Hunt would end the quarter with another save, making it her 15th save of the game. Unfortunately, after the Blazers put up a strong defense the whole game, the Blue Jays would take home the win, 8-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Hunt would have 15 saves out of 23 shots on goal.

  • The Blazers defense would block 6 shots from USJ.
