HOW IT HAPPENED
Saint Joseph's would begin the game with momentum on their side, recording seven shots in the opening seven minutes. First-year goaltender Emily Hunt (Montrose, N.Y.) would stop three of those shots, but the Monks would get one shot past Hunt to score the first goal of the contest. SJC would continue putting pressure on the Blazers defense, adding more shots and penalty corners until they would score twice more before the end of the first quarter. The second quarter would see a similar narrative, as the Monks continued their search to extend their lead, but the Blazers defense would see two defensive saves by junior Elizabeth Franzoni (Rutland, Vt.), but SJC would score once before the halftime break, extending their lead 4-0.
At the start of the third quarter, Elms would bring in junior goaltender Katelyn Volk (Warwick, R.I.) and she would see nine shots in the quarter, making seven saves during that time, but the Monks would score once again during the quarter. The fourth quarter would see Saint Joseph's three more goals in the first five minutes, as the Blazers defense continued to try their best to hold off the SJC offense until the final whistle. The Monks would defeat Elms 8-0 to begin conference play in the 2024 season.
