Field Hockey Downed At Wheelock

BOSTON, Mass. – The Elms College field hockey team dropped a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) match at Wheelock, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Winsor Field. With the loss, the Blazers move to 8-8 on the season and 6-2 in the NECC, while the Wildcats rise to 5-9 and 4-3 in the NECC.

The Wildcats were able to mark the scoreboard early after initially owning the possession game posting their first shot off the stick of junior Katie Frade (Dartmouth, Mass.) at the 1:24 marker. From There freshmen Julia D' Onofrio (Salem, N.H.) would capture the first score of the contest off of an junior Abbey Raymond (Salem, N.H.) ball inside the circle to seize the early advantage.

The Blazers would fight back posting runs up and down the field to which the Wildcat defense would clear out to maintain their lead heading into the second half after Frade tallied the second and final goal of the contest at the 19:44 tally off of a senior Courtney Scherer (Pawcatuck, CT.) ball.

The Blazers harnessed their best scoring chance during the second at the 45:58 time slot off of a corner opportunity to which senior Stephanie Esposito (Orange, Conn.) found the stick of freshmen Olivia Keene (Enfield, Conn.) who sent the ball just wide of the cage.

The Wildcats outshot the Blazers, 14-1, during the contest. Sophomore keeper Jillian Lapponese (Enfield, Conn.) posted 5 saves on the day while O'Leary collected three on the afternoon.

The Blazers will return to action on Tuesday October 25th  as they will travel to Becker College for  4 p.m.start. The Wildcats will face off against Regis College Tuesday October 25th  for a 7 p.m. start time.
