NEWTON, Mass. – The Elms College field hockey team fell to host Lasell College, 4-1, in a non-conference matchup at Grellier Field Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Blazers move to 0-5 on the season, while the Lasers improve to 6-1 overall.

The Lasers took no time cracking the scoreboard as they harnessed in on their attack and posted the first goal of the afternoon after only eight minutes of scoreless play. Cailin Flannery (Medford, N.J.) took advantage off of a fast break opportunity that found its home in the back of the cage. From there Elms had an opportunity to even the tide as they gathered a corner at the11:57 mark but were unable to capitalize.

Grace Dugay (Watertown, Mass.) produced the second tally for Lasell, off of a Samantha Taylor (Hanover, Mass.) feed from the outside to post a 2-0 score.

The Lasers continued on with their third goal of the afternoon at 24:51 as Flannery spotted an open Brittany Fortier (Newport, VT.) who crashed the cage with success giving Lasell the 3-0 advantage. Both Elms sophomores Hayley Omahen (El, Cajon, Calif.) and Madison Messier (Warren, Mass.) fired shots throughout the first for the Blazer squad, however Denise Landry(New Milford, Conn.) posted big saves keeping the Lasell on top heading into the second half.

At the start of the second the Lasers continued on their scoring stint posting their final goal of the contest five minutes in as Izzy Contois (Conway, Mass.) placed a feed from Mindy Espositio (Sunderland, Mass.) off of a corner opportunity. Despite the widening gap Elms continued to battle and secure offensive pressure.
