Field Hockey Thumps Daniel Webster

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College field hockey team snatched their fifth consecutive New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) win, defeating host Daniel Webster College, 7-2, Thursday afternoon at Harvey Woods Field. The Blazers move to 7-6 on the season and 5-0 in the NECC, while the Eagles drop to 0-9 and 0-4 in the conference.

The Blazers started off the contest on a high note with sophomore Madison Messier (Warren, Mass.) leading the charge as she posted the first two tallies of the contest, off of two sophomore Hayley Omahen (San Diego, Calif.) feeds, starting at the 4:27 mark to quickly ensure the Elms advantage. Sophomore Jeszenia McGuire (Branfield, Mass.) ripped the third score of the afternoon to close out the first half on an uncontested shot inside the circle that found its home in the back of the cage. Elms led the shot column in the first 13-6, and led in penalty corners 4-3.

The Eagles pushed back throughout the second half, challenging the defensive side of the field with attempted runs down the line. However, Elms senior Stephanie Esposito (Orange, Conn.) would produce her first goal of the afternoon off of a McGuire ball in the 42^nd minute to cushion the Elms lead. From there, McGuire would continue to make her presence known scoring two back-to-back goals, assisted by Messier, to secure a 6-0 gain.

Daniel Webster rallied onto the scoreboard at the 58:38 mark after as a sophomore Megan-Lewis Taylor (Magnolia, Del.) feed found the stick of junior Madison Platte (Manchester, N.H.), who sent it to the back of the cage.  Esposito would reply for the Blazer squad posting a shot attempt a minute later that ricocheted off of freshmen keeper Ashlyn Farwell (Pelham, N.H) outside of the cage. Esposito would put back the rebounded ball to tally her second goal of the contest.

The Eagles would close out the scoring column ending with an Amanda Dargie score off of a freshmen Sydney Delfrote (Groton, Mass.) ball from the right side, in turn posting a 7-2 scoreboard in favor of the Blazers.

The Blazers outshot the Eagles, 28-11, during the contest. Freshmen keeper Kelly Moulton (Whately, Mass.) posted 6 saves on the day while Farwell collected 14 on the afternoon.

The Blazers will return to action on Saturday as they will play host to Bay Path for an 11a.m.start. The Eagles will face off against Wheelock Saturday the 15^th for a 1 p.m. start time.
