NASHUA, NH. – The Elms College field hockey team captured their first win of the season, defeating Rivier University 3-2, in non-conference play at Raider field Tuesday evening. With the win the Blazers move to 1-5 on the season, while Raiders drop to 1-5 overall.

The Blazers acted fast on the attack wasting little to no time presenting a strong offensive front as they notched their first score of the evening less than three minutes into the contest as a sophomore Madison Messier (Warren, Mass.) feed found the stick of sophomore Jeszenia McGuire (Branfield, Mass.) who sent it to the back of the cage to quickly obtain the 1-0 advantage.

At the 17:09 mark, the Blazers struck again as Messier captured the second goal of the contest off of a McGuire ball from the outside.

From there both squads rallied up and down the green, however Elms was able to harness another golden opportunity off of a corner break that enabled them to one again stretch out the scoreboard. Sophomore Hayley Omahan (El Cajon, Calif.) sent the ball into action for the Elms squad, where freshmen Madison Gabel (Agawam, Mass.) then shifted to an open McGuire who anchored her second goal of the evening to plug in a 3-0 advantage in the first.

As the clock began to wind down in the first half, the Raiders were able to find their first break of the night off of a corner situation at the 22:43 mark. Senior Chelsie Hubicsak-Muldowney (Windham, N.H.) found an open senior Brittani Garza (Alexandria, Va.) who fired to the back of the cage for the Raiders to close out the first posting a 3-1 score.

Throughout the second half, the Raiders were able to keep Elms off of the board, while tallying their second and final goal of the afternoon during the concluding play of the evening as a junior Marykate Sweeney (Chicopee, Mass.) corner found the stick of Hubicsak-Muldowney, who was able to capitalize by spotting an open Sweeney for the final shot to post an end of the game 3-2 Elms scoreboard.

The Raiders outshot the Blazers, 5-3, during the contest. Both Goalkeepers tallied zero saves on the afternoon.

The Blazers will return to action on Thursday night as they will play host to Mount Ida for a 7p.m. start at Leary Field. The Raiders will face off against Becker College Thursday with a 7 p.m. start time.
