CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College field hockey team fell to WPI, 3-0, in a non-conference matchup at Leary Field Saturdayafternoon. With the loss, the Blazers move to 0-3 on the season, while the Engineers improve to 2-2 overall.

The Engineers took no time cracking the scoreboard as they converted their first goal of the afternoon less than two minutes into the contest after freshmen Carly Cidado (Easton, Mass.) launched a ball to the stick of senior Allie Buckley (Worcester, Mass.), who sent it to the back of the cage giving WPI the 1-0 advantage early in the first.

From there the Blazers continued to maintain defensive effort as junior Alyssa Falvo (Wilbraham, Mass.) and sophomore Madison Messier (Warren, Mass.) both posted defensive saves within the first 12 minutes of action in addition to sophomore Jillian Lapponese(Enfield, Conn.) producing a total of 14 saves throughout the contest for the Blazer squad.

Despite Elms efforts the Engineers offense proved to be too much, tabbing their second goal of the afternoon at the 21:37 mark after senior Hope Shevchuk (Burlington, CT) was able to make contact off of a corner opportunity. From there Shevchuk would close out the afternoon producing the last goal of the day in the second off of a Jena Mazzucco (Danbury, CT) assist.

The Engineers outshot the Blazers, 24-0, during the contest. Lapponese stopped 14 shots for the Blazers, while sophomore keeper Karen Noble (Mariaville, ME) posted a clean sheet.

The Blazers will return to action on Tuesday September 13th as they will play host to Anna Maria for a 7:00 p.m. start. The Engineers will face off against Worcester State on September 13th with a 7:00 p.m. game time.
