HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half would kick off with Elms taking an early offensive advantage, with shots from junior Jamie McDonough (Dedham, Mass.) and sophomore Emily Basua (Oxnard, Cali.). After Basua's shot was saved by Brooklyn's goalkeeper, Basua would collect the rebound and pass the ball to senior Kelly Malheiro (Centereach, N.Y.) to score the opening goal of the contest. After the kick off, graduate student Hannah Kolodziey (East Longmeadow, Mass.) would find an open McDonough to score her first goal of the afternoon. Minutes later, the Blazers would score once again after Basua connected with McDonough for her second goal of the game. The pair would then take two more shots shortly after. Elms would see three more shots from sophomore Lilli Ramos (Springfield, Mass.), senior Emma Cote (Ludlow, Mass.), and graduate student Kellie Smith (Marshfield, Mass.), before first-year Jenna McGuire (Shelton, Conn.) would find an open Smith to score the fourth goal of the first half. After the goal, the Blazers would continue the offensive pressure taking six more shots from sophomore Macy Figlewski (Meriden, Conn.), sophomore Kaylee Little (Brighton, Mass.), junior Ava Denault (Palmer, Mass.), and Cote before the halftime break, holding their 4-0 lead.
The second half would see the Bulldogs taking the first shot, but the shot would be saved by sophomore goalkeeper Ramia Santos (Ephrata, Penn.), coming in after the break substituting senior goalkeeper Mackenzie Quick (Barrington, N.H.). Following the save, Malheiro would connect a pass to McDonough to score her third goal of the game to fulfill the hat trick. The Blazers would keep their foot on the gas pedal with another shot from Basua, followed by their sixth and final goal of the game from Malheiro, assisted by Basua and Figlewski. Elms would see shots from juniors Jordan Lee (Hampden, Mass.), Daniella Niemiec (Chicopee, Mass.), Cote, and Little, but Brooklyn then took three straight corner kicks to get themselves on the scoreboard, but the Blazers defense would hold strong keeping the 6-0 lead. The Bulldogs would take a second shot that would be saved by Santos. Then as the final seconds ticked down, senior Arianna Hamel (Wilbraham, Mass.) would take a shot that would hit the right side post of the goal, but Elms would hold off the Bulldogs to win the game 6-0 at home.
