
Women's Soccer Pushes Past Lasell in GNAC Battle
CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Women's Soccer team hosted Lasell University in a conference matchup Saturday afternoon at Leary Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening half would see Elms take the first shot from first-year midfielder Jenna McGuire (Shelton, Conn.), but it would be saved by Lasell's goalkeeper. The Lasers would be first to score in the sixth minute. The Blazers would generate shots from senior forward Kelly Malheiro (Centereach, N.Y.), sophomore forward/midfielder Emily Basua (Oxnard, Cali.), and junior forward Jamie McDonough (Dedham, Mass.) and two saves from graduate student goalkeeper Hailey Magierowski (Brimfield, Mass.). Shortly after, Malheiro connected a pass with Basua to score the first goal for Elms to tie the game. The two sides would trade possession and shots, including shots from Malheiro and sophomore defender McKenna Moore (Hartford, Conn.), until the horn sounded and the score would be tied 1-1.
Both sides would come out of the break taking multiple shots, including shots from Malheiro and Basua and two more saves from Magierowski, which would lead to a go-ahead goal by McDonough to give the Blazers a 2-1 lead. Lasell would continue to add shots, but the Elms defense would hold them off, including a defensive save by sophomore defender Macy Figlewski (Meriden, Conn.). The two sides would continue to add shots, including from senior midfielder Hannah Duggan (Palmer, Mass.) and sophomore forward Kaylee Little (Brighton, Mass.). Then in the final ten minutes, the Lasers would take seven shots, but the Blazers would make three saves from Magierowski and a defensive save sophomore midfielder Sydney Polica (Stratford, Conn.) to help Elms capture the victory 2-1.
