Lesley Snaps Women’s Soccer’s 4-Game Win Streak at Home

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Women's Soccer team hosted Lesley University for a non-conference matchup Sunday afternoon at Leary Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The opening half would begin with Lesley creating offensive pressure on the Elms defense and senior goaltender Mackenzie Quick (Barrington, N.H.), with the Lynx taking five shots in the opening 10 minutes of play, with Quick making three saves to keep the game scoreless. Lesley would continue adding more pressure on the Blazers defense, until senior forward Kelly Malheiro (Centereach, N.Y.) would take the first shot for Elms in the 29th minute of play, but that shot would be saved. The Lynx would regain possession late in the half and add three more shots, but with two more saves by Quick and one shot hitting the crossbar, the two former conference foes would be tied scoreless heading into halftime.

The second half would begin in favor of the Blazers after gaining possession to lead to a corner kick taken by Malheiro and two shots by graduate student midfielder Hannah Kolodziey (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and senior midfielder Emma Cote (Ludlow, Mass.). Lesley would then take control of the ball and would score two goals in the 56th and 62nd minute. Malheiro and junior midfielders Daniella Niemiec (Chicopee, Mass.) and Ava Denault (Palmer, Mass.) would each take shots, but Lelsey would score two more goals to secure the game, defeating Elms 4-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Quick would make 14 saves in the contest.

  • Malheiro would lead the Blazers taking two shots, with both being on net.

UP NEXT: The Elms Men's Soccer team will host Emmanuel College in a conference matchup on Wednesday, September 25th at 7 PM at Leary Field.
