CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Women's Soccer team hosted Vassar College for their season opener in a non-conference game Friday evening at Leary Field.
BASICS
Score: Elms College 0 | Vassar College 8
Records: Blazers 0-1, 0-0 (GNAC) | Brewers 1-0, 0-0 (Liberty League)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Vassar would come out of the gates really quick, challenging the Elms defense and senior goalkeeper Mackenzie Quick (Barrington, N.H.) taking a total of seven shots and making three goals in the opening 11 minutes. The Brewers offense would continue to create obstacles for the Blazers, adding three more goals before the end of the opening half, but the Elms offense would not go out without a fight when senior forward Kelly Malheiro (Centereach, N.Y.) broke through the Vassar defensive wall and took a shot on net that would be saved.
The Brewers would continue challenging the Blazers as they added two more goals to the board. Shortly after their final goal, Elms would find some offensive life with a break away that led to a shot by junior forward Jordan Lee (Hampden, Mass.), but that would also be saved. Vassar would hold off the Blazers to take the season opener 8-0.
