Women's Soccer Holds Suffolk to 2-0 Loss

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Women's Soccer team hosted Suffolk University in a non-conference game Sunday afternoon at Leary Field.

BASICS
Score: Elms College 0 | Suffolk University 2
Records: Blazers 0-2, 0-0 (GNAC) | Rams 1-0, 0-0 (CNE)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Elms started with the matchup with the offensive momentum earning an early corner kick in the opening minutes, but unfortunately Suffolk would stop the Blazers offense and take over the momentum for the first half taking 15 shots during the opening 45 minutes, but only scoring one goal. Graduate goalkeeper Hailey Magierowski (Brimfield, Mass.) would make four saves in the half and the Elms offense would carry the ball over the halfway line, including a shot from sophomore forward Kaylee Little (Brighton, Mass.), but the Rams defense would cause disruptions in the Blazers offensive efforts. But the Elms defense would hold Suffolk to a score of 1-0 at the halftime break.

The second half would see a similar narrative as to the previous half, 17 shots by the Rams and the Blazers defense holding strong only allowing one more goal. Magierowski added five more saves and seeing some help from a defensive save by sophomore defender Sydney Polica (Stratford, Conn.) in the 71st minute. The Elms offense would continue to make their efforts heard, trying to score their first goal of the young season, including a shot by sophomore midfielder Lilli Ramos (Springfield, Mass.), but Suffolk's defense would continue disrupting passes. The Rams would defeat the Blazers, but Elms would keep their heads up with the score being 2-0 to a strong Suffolk opponent on their home field.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Magierowski made nine saves in her collegiate goalkeeping debut.
