Women's Soccer Sinks Mariners 2-0 for Fourth Straight Win

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Elms College Women's Soccer team traveled to Mitchell College for a conference match up on Tuesday afternoon.

Records: Blazers 4-3, 4-1 (GNAC) | Mariners 0-4, 0-4 (GNAC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED  

In the first half, Elms would dominate on offense and have 7 shots on goal within the first 18 minutes. This would include shots from, sophomore defender Macy Figlewski (Meriden, Conn.), three shots by junior forward Jamie McDonough (Dedham, Mass.), one shot by senior forward Kelly Malheiro (Centereach, N.Y.), and two shots by sophomore forward/midfielder Emily Basua (Oxnard, Cali.). The Blazers would get one more shot by Malheiro before scoring the first goal of the half by junior forward Jordan Lee (Hampden, Mass.). The Blazers would end the first half with two more shots by senior midfielder Emma Cote (Ludlow, Mass.) and sophomore forward Kaylee Little (Brighton, Mass.). With the end of the first half and excitement all around, the Blazers would take the lead 1-0.  

With the start of the second half, the Blazers would start off strong with an offensive possession with one shot by McDonough. Then McDonough would score another goal assisted by Basua for the Blazers. Making the score 2-0. The Blazers would finish off the second half with four more shots. This would include shots from McDonough, sophomore defender McKenna Moore (Hartford, Conn.), senior midfielder Arianna Hamel (Wilbraham, Mass.), and Cote. The Blazers would end the game 2-0, securing another win, winning 4 games in a row.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Graduate student goalkeeper Hailey Magierowski (Brimfield, Mass.) would save all four shots she faced.

  • Elms would outshoot Mitchell 17-10 in the contest.

  • Lee and McDonough would each record one goal, but McDonough would take six shots, five were on net.

  • Basua made one assist and took two shots.
