Women's Soccer Defeats Simmons for Thier First Victory of the Season
BRIGHTON, Mass. - The Elms College Women's Soccer team traveled to Simmons University for a conference match up on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half would see Elms out shoot Simmons 5 to 1 in the opening 16-minutes, including shots from senior forward Kelly Malheiro (Centereach, N.Y.), junior forward Jamie McDonough (Dedham, Mass.), and sophomore forward/midfielder Emily Basua (Oxnard, Cali.). Moments later, Basua would find a pass from sophomore defender Sophia Andrade (Southwick, Mass.) to score the opening goal of the contest, giving the Blazers an early 1-0 lead. Elms would continue to create pressure on the Sharks with a shot from first-year midfielder Jenna McGuire (Shelton, Conn.), until Basua would find the back of the net for a second time, extending the Blazers lead 2-0. Graduate student midfielder Hannah Kolodziey (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and sophomore forward Kaylee Little (Brighton, Mass.) would each take a shot, but Simmons would hold off the Elms offense to go into the halftime break with the lead.
Simmons would come out of the break trying to take over the momentum of the game, taking four shots early in the second half and scoring one goal in the 57th minute. The Blazers were looking to extend their lead, with shots from McDonough and Malheiro, but the Sharks defense would stop their attempts. Simmons would continue their search for their equalizing goal, but they would be unsuccessful and Elms would secure their first victory of the season, winning the match 2-1.

Graduate student goalkeeper Hailey Magierowski (Brimfield, Mass.) recorded five saves in the contest.
