Women's Basketball Falls At Dean, 75-63

FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Elms College women's basketball team couldn't keep pace with Dean College in the second half, falling 75-63 on the road in New England Collegiate Conference play on Saturday afternoon.

The Blazers (7-7, 3-4 NECC) led 30-26 at halftime but the Bulldogs (5-9, 3-4 NECC) quickly tied the game early in the third quarter and used a 13-4 run later in the quarter to take a 47-41 lead into the fourth.

The Bulldogs built their lead to double digits early in the fourth but Elms was able to but that in half, 61-56, with five minutes to play. Dean, however, then used a 6-0 run to pad its lead, and hung on over the final minutes.

Angelica Peguero-Flores (Springfield, Mass.) led all scorers with 23 points going an impressive 11-for-12 from the field. Niah Pantry (New Haven, Conn.) added an 11-point, 11- rebound double-double, and Regina LeBlanc (Enfield, Conn.) tallied 10 assists, five rebounds and four points.

Makayla Rudder led Dean with 19 points and Iindia Pina and Nicole Romero each added 15 for the Bulldogs.

Elms shot 41.8 percent from the field and won the rebounding battle, 40-32, but was hindered by 28 turnovers, which led to 27 Dean points. The Bulldogs shot 45.2 percent from the field.

Both teams are back in action against NECC opponents on Tuesday. Elms will host New England College while Dean will visit Newbury.
