CHICOPEE, Mass. -- The Elms College women's basketball team smothered Bay Path from start to finish in a 79-24 win in the New England Collegiate Conference opener for both teams on Tuesday night in Picknelly Arena.
The Blazers (3-1, 1-0 NECC) held Bay Path (1-4, 0-1 NECC) to just a single point in the first quarter, building a 23-1 lead through 10 minutes. It was the first of three quarters in which Elms held the Wildcats to single-digits. The Blazer defense allowed just 10 second-half points, including four in the third quarter and six in the fourth.
Molly Moulton scored 18 points to lead three Blazer scorers in double-figures. She went 8-for-9 from the field and added four rebounds. Niah Pantry scored 17 points and six rebounds for Elms and Kayla Soto added 10 points off the bench.
Turnovers proved to be one of the biggest differences in the contest. Bay Path gave the ball up 41 times, leading to 45 points for the Blazers. On the other end, Elms committed just 14 turnovers. The Blazers shot 41.0 percent (34-of-83) from the field while Bay Path connected on 23.1 percent from the field and attempted just 39 shots (9-of-39).
Emmeline Bronson led Bay Path with 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
The Blazers return to action on Nov. 27 at Fitchburg State in their first road game of the season. Bay Path continues NECC play at Southern Vermont on Nov. 27.
