Chicopee, Mass. — The Elms College women's basketball team fell to Rhode Island College 58-44 in Picknelly Arena on Wednesday night after the Anchormen took a 20-11 lead through the first quarter and never looked back.
Elms (1-1) was never able to make a run during the game as they were outplayed beneath the rim. RIC (2-0) dominated the boards, out-rebounding Elms 48-29.
Offensively Elms was led by junior Molly Moulton (North Adams, Mass.). She went 4-for-11 from the field and made 3-of-5 at the free throw line for a team-high 11 points. Defensively Regina LeBlanc (Enfield, Conn.) led the way with five defensive rebounds. LeBlanc also made her presence known at the free throw line, making 6-of-8 attempts to finish with 10 points
On the other end of the court, junior Brooke Young (West Warwick, R.I.) turned in a great performance for RIC, who put up an impressive 19 points. She made five field goals, including 4 from deep. Young also helped herself at the line, where she went 5-for-6.
Overall, the Blazers were not able to compete with RIC's 40.7 field goal percentage and were held to just 26.0 percent from the field.
Next in line for the Blazers is a New England Collegiate Conference matchup at home against Bay Path on Nov. 20. RIC will take on Wentworth on Nov. 19.
