Blazer Basketball To Host Suits And Sneakers Game On Jan. 22

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College men's and women's basketball teams will participate in the American Cancer Society's Coaches vs. Cancer Suits And Sneakers Week later this month. Women's coach Michelle Proulx and men's coach Rob Southall will complement their formal in-game attire with sneakers during the Jan. 22 double-header. The Blazer men tip-off against Mitchell at 5:00 p.m. in Picknelly Arena, followed by the Elms women against Lesley at 7:00 p.m.

Jan. 21-27 is Suits And Sneakers Week nationwide, a week when basketball coaches across the country unite for the common cause of saving lives from cancer. Elms' event on Jan. 22 is part of a conference-wide effort throughout the week. A total of four New England Collegiate Conference teams will be hosting Suits And Sneakers games, including Southern Vermont College, Eastern Nazarene and Lesley University in addition to Elms.

The event is designed to help raise funds and encourage people to educate themselves about cancer prevention, screening and early detection. The Elms Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will help the fundraising efforts by conducting 50-50 raffles during both games, with the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

Elms fans can make a Suits And Sneakers American Cancer Society donation anytime between now and Jan. 27 by clicking here.

The Coaches vs. Cancer program is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The initiative leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs. Since 1993, coaches have raised over $100 million for the American Cancer Society.
