Men's and women's swimming fall to Bridgewater State

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College men's and women's swim teams hosted Bridgewater State in dual meets on Saturday, with the Blazer men falling 142-81 and the women dropping a 141-86 decision.

Brittany North highlighted the Blazer women's squad with a trio of individual medalist honors. She won the 100-meter IM (1:20.16), 100-meter butterfly (1:20.15) and 100-meter backstroke (1:18.88). North also anchored the 200-meter freestyle relay, following Julianne Gordon, Aislinn Carrier and Cricket Caver, who finished second (2:08.33).

Carrier picked up a pair of second-place individual finishes for the Blazer women, doing so in the 50-meter freestyle (31.88) and 200-meter freestyle (2:31.82).

Michael Grippo turned swept the men's backstroke events, winning the 50-meter race in 31.25 and the 100-meter event in 1:05.70. He also finished second in the 50-meter freestyle (26.71) and led off the second-place 200-meter medley relay (2:02.83).

Nick Bergstrom was just behind Grippo in both backstroke events to pick up two second-place finishes for the EC men. He finished the 50-meter backstroke in 34.89 and the 100-meter backstroke in 1:06.95.

The Blazers return to action on Jan. 10 when Western New England visits Elms at 4:00 p.m.
