Jonathan’s Late Strike Lifts Men’s Soccer Past Becker College, 1-0

LEICESTER, Mass. – Elms College senior forward Ziggy Jonathan (Springfield, Mass.) scored a goal with 18:18 remaining in the contest to lift the Blazers to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Becker College in Wednesday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's soccer game at Alumni Field in Leicester, Mass.

With the win, Elms improves to 8-8-0 overall, 4-2-0 in NECC action, while Becker remains winless at 0-16-1, 0-6-1 in conference play.

After playing 71:42 of scoreless soccer, Jonathan broke the deadlock when he controlled a ball in the middle of the field, split two defenders and fired a shot into the bottom right corner of the net to give Elms a 1-0 lead.

Becker, which had two shots on goal in the match, had one from Albert Tabor (Willimantic, Conn.) in the 85th minute of action, but Blazers' sophomore goalkeeper Christian Kostka (Oxford, Conn.) made one of his two saves to preserve his third shutout of the season.

Hawks' goalkeeper Tim MacDonald (Holden, Mass.) made five saves in the losing effort for Becker as Elms fired seven shots on target and had 19 total attempts in the winning effort. Sophomore midfielder Safa Saady (Baghdad, Iraq) and Jonathan had two shots on goal each.

Elms concludes regular season action on Saturday, October 26 when it hosts Daniel Webster College at 3:30 p.m. at Leary Field.
