Weather Forces Men's Soccer and WPI to Abandon Match

WORCESTER, Mass. - Following a well-played half by both teams, the Elms College men's soccer team saw its match at WPI was postponed due to a prolonged thunderstorm. In accordance with NCAA rules, the game, which was tied 1-1, will have to replayed from the start. A makeup date will be announced in the upcoming days.

Prior to the postponement, Elms' senior Adam O'Grady (Somers, Conn.) headed home a throw in from freshman Scott Labrie (Southampton, Mass.) to put the Blazers on top 1-0 in the ninth minute.

At the 20:47 mark, WPI's Kurt Naugler (Westford, Mass.) finished off a feed from Shane Fagan (Middletown, R.I.) to the lower right corner of the net to even the match at 1-all.

WPI senior net minder Jeff Wong (Millington, N.J.) halted one shot while Blazers' sophomore goalkeeper Nick Pennant (Kingston, Jamaica) collected a trio of saves.

The second half was moments away from starting before the match was suspended due to a threat of lighting in the area.  Subsequent lightning and eventually heavy rain continued for nearly 45 minutes before the decision to end play was made.   The stats from Thursday's contest will not count.

Elms returns to action on Saturday, September 14 when it hosts Lyndon State College at 1:00 p.m.
