Men’s Soccer Surges Past Lyndon State College, 8-0

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College senior forward Adam O'Grady (Somers, Conn.) scored a pair of goals and seven different Blazers found the back of the net to help secure an 8-0 victory over Lyndon State College on Saturday afternoon at Leary Field.

With the win, Elms improves to 2-2-0 overall, while Lyndon State falls to 0-4-0 on the season.

Elms outshot Lyndon State 37-9 including 21-5 in shots on goal. The Blazers netted four goals in each 45 minute stanza.

Adam O'Grady put Elms ahead, 1-0 in the 17th minute of action on a beautiful feed from Safa Saddy (Chicopee, Mass.). Saddy then scored a goal of his own, driving the ball into the back of the net from just outside the 18-yard box to give the Blazers a 2-0 lead.

Freshman midfielder Scott Labrie (Southampton, Mass.) then delivered a sensational header into the goal off a corner kick service from junior midfielder Joelle Reyes (San Salvador, El Salvador) in the 23rd minute.

Senior midfielder Alex Rodriguez (Fitchburg, Mass.) capped the scoring for the first period with nine minutes to play when he converted a penalty kick to give Elms a 4-0 advantage at intermission.

Elms' sophomore goalkeeper Nick Pennant (Kingston, Jamaica) made four saves in the first half, while his counterpart Jason Marks (Newtown, Conn.) made four stops in the first 45 minutes.

Sophomore defender Connor O'Grady (Somers, Conn.) opened the scoring at the 51:21 mark of the contest when he scored on a rebound following a shot by Adam O'Grady. Connor O'Grady then lined up a free kick and his feed found the foot of junior midfielder Conor Rieker (Agawam, Mass.) who deposited the ball in the back of the net to set the score at 6-0 in the 63rd minute.

Senior forward Ziggy Jonathan (Springfield, Mass.) scored on a breakaway in the 71st minute and Adam O'Grady added a breakaway goal a minute later to seal the Blazers' 8-0 victory.

Lyndon State's Lueth Ajok Lueth (Burlington, Vt.) registered a pair of shots on target, while goalkeeper Ben Estes (Montpelier, Vt.), who played the first 29:27 of the second frame, made eight saves. Jason Pelkey (Barre, Vt.) finished between the pipes and made a save for the Hornets.

Sophomore goalkeeper Christian Kostka (Oxford, Conn.) made a save in 26:34 of second half action, while sophomore net-minder John Matrisciano (West Haven, Conn.) played the final 18:26.

Elms returns to non-conference action on Wednesday, September 18 when it hosts Johnson & Wales University at 4:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
