Colby-Sawyer College Edges Men's Soccer, 3-2

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Elms College senior forward Adam O'Grady (Somers, Conn.) netted the equalizer in the 84th minute of play, but a goal by Colby-Sawyer College's Chris DiCecca (Wilmington, Mass.) with 18 seconds to play lifted the Chargers to a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Blazers in Saturday afternoon's season-opening men's soccer game for both teams.

With the loss, Elms begins its season 0-1 overall, while Colby-Sawyer stands at 1-0 on the season.

Rick Prindiville (Hooksett, N.H.) put Colby-Sawyer ahead, 1-0 in the 41st minute of the first half depositing a header off a corner kick service from Max Yee (Hooksett, N.H.).

Leading 1-0 five minutes into the second half, the Chargers added to their tally when Carlton Wheeler-Omiunu (Bellingham, Mass.) corralled the rebound on a saved shot by DiCecca and found the back of the net on a header to extend the lead to 2-0.

Elms' senior forward Ziggy Jonathan (Burundi, Africa) cut the Blazers' deficit in half when he received a through ball from Adam O'Grady and scored in the right corner of the net at the 55:38 mark to set the score at 2-1.

Adam O'Grady then connected for the game-tying goal at the 83:25 mark when he scored on a rebound from a saved shot by Jonathan to level the contest at 2-2.

Colby-Sawyer answered with late heroics of its own when DiCecca scored on a header off a service from a free kick by Alex Ortega (Milton, Vt.) with just 18 seconds to play to give the Chargers a scintillating 3-2 victory.

Elms outshot Colby-Sawyer 19-12 in the game, and sophomore goalkeeper Christian Kostka (Oxford, Conn.) made five saves in the losing effort for the Blazers. Adam O'Grady led all players with six shots.

Nick Austin (Westerly, R.I.) made seven stops between the pipes for the Chargers to preserve the win.

Elms returns to action on Wednesday, September 4 at 7:00 p.m. at Fitchburg State University in non-conference action.
