Men's Golf 15th At NEIGA Championship

BREWSTER, Mass. – The Elms College men's golf team placed 15th overall at the 2017 New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championships, held at The Captain's Course over the weekend.

The Blazers carded a two-day total of 652 (332-320), improving by 12 strokes in the final round of play. Freshman Christian Pavlakis (Harwich, Mass.) led the Blazers with a 49th place finish after firing back-to-back 81s for a total of 162. Junior Chris Soderberg (Northampton, Mass.) finished tied at 54th after a consistent two-day score of 163 (82-81). After shooting an 89 in the first round, senior Mike Fleury (West Springfield, Mass.) rebounded by 14 strokes with a 75 on day two to post a 164 for a share of 61st. Senior Brian Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) nabbed a share of 75th with a 168 (85-83), while freshman Josh Keaton (Northbridge, Mass.) rounded out the Blazers squad, shooting a 177 (84-93) to claim a tie at 86th.

Husson won the 2017 NEIGA Division III Championship with a team score of 586 (298-288). Rhode Island College placed second with a 597, followed by Babson (599), Western New England (608), and Nichols (609) composed the top 5 of the team leaderboard. Endicott finished sixth at 618, trailed by Tufts (620), Johnson & Wales (RI) (622), Springfield (636), Salem State (643), bates (644), Southern Maine (646), Suffolk (646), Wentworth (647), Elms, UMass-Dartmouth (655), St. Joseph (ME) (661), Castleton (671), and New England College (680).

The Blazers will return to action for their spring season in March.
