Men's Golf Finishes Sixth At Bill Detrick Invitational

NEWINGTON, Conn. – The Elms College men's golf team placed sixth overall at the 2017 Bill Detrick Invitational, hosted by Trinity College, at Indian Hills Country Club Sunday afternoon.

The Blazers fired a team score of 317, improving by 12 strokes from their opening round of play, to finish with a team total of 646 (329-317). Junior James Shalhoup (North Easton, Mass.) finished tied for eighth overall with a 152 (78-74), sitting four strokes back of the top of the leaderboard. Classmate Chris Soderberg (Northampton, Mass.) shot a 162 (82-80) to own a share of 28th, while sophomore Matt King (Feeding Hills, Mass.) was one stroke back with a 163 (84-79) for 30th. Senior Mike Fleury (West Springfield, Mass.) posted a 169 (85-84) at 48th, and freshman Frankie Murray (Belchertown, Mass.) was one stroke back with a 170 (85-85) for 49th. Senior Brian Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) rounded out the Blazer golfers with a 179 (90-89) for a share of 58th.

Trinity won the tournament with a score of 600 (302-298). Western New England (616) took second, followed by Amherst (621), Tufts (625), Babson (630), Elms, Manhattanville (658), Springfield College (664), and Wesleyan (679).

The Blazers will return to the links for the MCLA Invitational Thursday at the Berkshire Hills Country Club in Pittsfield.
