Men's Golf Eighth At Detrick Invitaitonal

NEWINGTON, Conn. – The Elms College men's golf team sits ninth overall on the team leaderboard after the opening round of play at the Bill Detrick Invitational, hosted by Trinity College, at Indian Hills Country Club Saturday afternoon. The Blazers sit 17 strokes back off the top five groups.

Elms carded a team score of 415 in their opening round of action for the 2017 season. Junior James Shalhoup (North Easton, Mass.) fired a team-low 78 to finish with a share of 14th overall. Junior Chris Soderberg (Northampton, Mass.) shot an 82 for a tie at 36th, while sophomore Matt King (Feeding Hills, Mass.) is two strokes back with an 84 for 46th. Senior Mike Fleury (West Springfield, Mass.) totaled an 85 for 51st place, followed by freshman Frankie Murray (Belchertown, Mass.) in a tie at 52nd with an 86, and senior Brian Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) with a share of 62nd with a 90.

Trinity owns the top two spots on the leaderboard with a 383 and a 384, respectively. Western New England sits third with a 389, trailed by Babson (398), Amherst (399), Tufts (401), Wesleyan (408), Elms, Manhattanville (419), and Springfield College (420).

The Blazers will be back on the course for the final round of play at the Invitational Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
