Men's Golf Sixth After Day One Of Blazer Invitational

AMHERST, Mass. – The Elms College men's golf team owns the sixth spot on the team leaderboard after the first round of action at the 2017 Blazer Fall Invitational, hosted by Elms, at Hickory Ridge Country Club Sunday afternoon.

The Blazers carded a score of 309, their lowest 18-hole score of the 2017-18 season. Junior James Shalhoup (North Easton, Mass.) paced the Blazers with a team-low 73 to own a share of fifth overall. Seniors Mike Fleury (West Springfield, Mass.) and Brian Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) both shot a 78 to claim a share of 30th. Junior Chris Soderberg (Northampton, Mass.) posted an 80 to tie at 42nd, while sophomore Matt King (Feeding Hills, Mass.) was one stroke back with an 81 for a share of 48th.

The Blazers 'B' squad fired a 329 to sit in 13th place. Freshman Frankie Murray (Belchertown, Mass.) is tied at 30th with a 78, followed by sophomore William Marchand (Springfield, Mass.) in 38th with a 79. Freshman Josh Keaton (Northbridge, Mass.) shot an 83 to tie at 55th, while freshman Christian Pavlakis (Harwich, Mass.) is 68th with an 89. Junior Mike McFadden (Northampton, Mass.) and sophomore Devin Senerchia (Ludlow, Mass.) are tied at 72nd with a 91.

Babson College leads the tournament field with a team score of 294, followed by Western New England (297), Rhode Island College (302), Westfield State (304) and Springfield College (308) compose the top 5 of the team leaderboard. Elms sits sixth, trailed by Amherst (310), Roger Williams (311), Suffolk (312), Nichols (315), Tufts (321), Dean (328), Elms 'B', MCLA (331), Becker (357), and Sage College (317) rounded out the tournament field.

The teams will return for the final round of action at The Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley Sunday starting at 11:00 a.m.
