Blazers Drop Home Opener to Bison

CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms College field hockey held their home opener on Leary Field last night where they battled against the visiting Nichols College Bison, falling to a 6-0 loss.

1st Half How it Happened

Blazers first year goalkeeper Kaitlyn Lynes held the visiting Bison to only two goals out of six shots on-goal in the first half. Both scored in the first quarter of play keeping the 2nd quarter scoreless for the Bison.  The Bison's first goal was scored by Erin Anthony at the 10:32 mark assisted by her teammate Dana Edwards. Second goal was scored by Edwards assisted by Emily Leblanc with less than a minute left in the first quarter. Senior captain Katie Jones (San Diego, CA) attempted to get the Blazers on the board in the fifth minute, but had an unlucky touch, sending the ball wide of the goal. The Bison lead 2-0 heading into the half.

2nd Half How it Happened

The Bison continued with their offensive push, scoring on 3 out of their 10 shots on-goal in the third quarter. Bisons Taylor Breen scored in the 35th minute and Erin Anthony scored her third of the game in the 33rd and 35th minute, attaining a hat trick for the game. Blazers goalkeeper Lynes had five saves totaling eleven saves in 3 quarters of play.

Blazers Lauren Fletcher becomes a wall behind keeper Lynes and records herself a defensive save off of a shot by Bison Erin Anthony denying her a fourth goal. 

Jones had a scoring opportunity for the Blazers off of a corner inserted by Senior Ellie Serra (Palmer, MA), but ended up being redirected wide of the goal. Late in the fourth quarter Blazers first year Tamara Edwards had a break away, one v one attempt with the Bisons goalkeeper Sophia Venable, who denied the goal for the Blazers. Elms College fell to Nichols 6-0.
