Blazers Drops Road Match Against Owls

CHICOPEE, MA - Elms field hockey traveled to Westfield, MA tonight where they went up against the Westfield State Owls. The Blazers played hard for four quarters, scoring two goals to get them on the board in the fourth quarter. The Blazers were overpowered by the Westfield State Owls (Westfield, MA) in a 10-2 in non-conference play Tuesday night.

1st Half How it Happened

Westfield scored two goals at the 7 minute mark of the first quarter to put the Owls up 2-0. The Blazers adjusted to the Owls offensive push and kept the score 2-0 at the end of the first quarter.  

Two minutes into the second quarter the Owls scored to make the score 3-0 at the 17:43 minute mark. Blazers battle to protect the circle, first year goalkeeper Kaitlyn Lynes makes 5 saves ending the half with a total of 11 saves. At the end of the first half the Owls have the lead 6-0.

2nd Half How it Happened

With an offensive push in the third quarter, senior forward Katie Jones (San Diego, CA) gets first goal for the Blazers off of a penalty stroke at the 37 minute mark. This is the Blazers and Jone's first stroke of the season. First year goalkeeper Katelyn Volk (Warwick, RI) splits time in the net and goes in for Lynes at the 39:46 minute mark. Lynes played just under 40 minutes and made twelve saves. At the end of the third quarter the Owls kept the lead 9-0. 

Blazers started the fourth quarter off with a goal scored by Jones on a penalty stroke, this will be the teams and her first stroke of the season. Shortly after Jones put the Blazers on the board, first year Tamara Edwards (Enfield, CT) followed up with another goal to put the score at 9-2. The Blazers ended the game 10-2.
