Westfield State Defeats Women's Volleyball in Three Sets
WESTFIELD, Mass. –Westfield State University picked up a nonconference women's volleyball win over Elms College in straight sets by scores of 25-20, 25-7 and 25-11 on Wednesday, Sept. 23 in the Woodward Center.
The Owls improve to 5-6 on the season while the Blazers move to 2-9.
The Owls received a balanced offensive attack on the night from three seniors. Kendyl Haney (Ashland, Mass./ Ashland) provided a game high 11 kills along with eight a piece from Shannon Shea (Chelmsford, Mass./ Chelmsford) and Casey Howe (Chelmsford, Mass./ Chelmsford).
Howe converted an impressive eight of her 13 total attacks to lead a blistering Owl attack percentage of .341 on the evening.
Owl's setters Courtney Ryan (Quincy, Mass./ Quincy) and Brigid Murray (Norfolk, Mass./ King Phillip Regional) doled out 11 assists each.
Senior Shannon Bolton (Shelton, Conn./ Shelton) had a game high 16 assists for the Blazers, setting the table for freshman Danielle Redding's (Las Vegas, N.V./ Bishop Gorman) team high 6 kills.
The Owls held a 9-1 edge in service aces.
Westfield State returns to MASCAC play on Saturday, Sept. 26 when they travel to Framingham State. The Owls are slated to play the Rams at 11:00 a.m. followed by Suffolk University at 1:00 p.m. Elms College hits the road on Friday, Sept. 25 to take on Castleton State at 7:00 p.m.
