Women's Volleyball Falls in Four at Mount Holyoke

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - The Elms College women's volleyball team fell to host Mount Holyoke in a non-conference match at the Mildred Howard GymnasiumThursday evening. The Blazers were defeated in four sets, 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 12-25, 12-25).

Elms was paced by freshman middle hitter Kate Moriarty (Agawam, Mass.) with a team-high six kills. Senior outside hitter Christine Searles (Tolland, Mass.), junior outside hitter Alexandra Mack (Wilbraham, Mass.), and freshman right side Ashlee Connors (Springfield, Mass.) each tallied five kills, while Mack added 17 digs and three aces, and Searles had 13 digs. Junior setter Shannon Bolton (Shelton, Conn.) dished out a team-high seven assists, while junior setter Kelly Melanson (Waltham, Mass.) and freshman Jessica Martin (Southwick, Mass.) chipped in six assists apiece. Senior libero Caitlyn Larvey (Greenfield, Mass.) snared a match-high 28 digs in the loss.

Mount Holyoke was led by a double-double effort from junior outside hiter Emma Sweeting (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) with a match-high 16 kills and 14 digs. Senior defensive specialist Kaleen Iwema (Wadsworth, Ill.) had nine kills and a team-high 26 digs. Sophomore setter Natalie Lyon (Oakton, va.) recorded a match-high 22 assists with 16 digs, while senior setter Stephany Yang (Glen Allen, Va.) registered 17 digs and 11 assists.

The Blazers dip to 5-18 on the season, while Mount Holyoke improves to 3-19 overall. Elms will look to return to the win column at Bay Path University Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. Mount Holyoke hosts Connecticut College and Worcester State in a tri-match Saturday afternoon.
