Volleyball Drops Pair at Becker Tri-Match

LEICESTER, Mass. – The Elms College women's volleyball suffered a pair of defeats in a tri-match, hosted by Becker College at the Becker Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. The Blazers fell to Becker, 3-1 (23-25, 20-25, 25-20, 20-25), and then were downed, 3-0 (15-25, 15-25, 16-25), against Wentworth.

In the match against Becker, junior outside hitter Alex Mack (Wilbraham, Mass.) tallied a team-high 12 kills with eight digs and two service aces. Freshmen Kate Moriarty (Agawam, Mass.) and Ashlee Connors (Springfield, Mass.) each added seven kills, while senior outside hitter Christine Searles (Tolland, Mass.) chipped in five kills with 12 digs. Junior setter Shannon Bolton (Shelton, Conn.) racked up a game-high 32 assists, and senior libero Caitlin Larvey (Greenfield, Mass.) snared a game-high 16 digs in the loss.

Becker was led by freshman middle hitter Kirsti Hadzewycz (Daytona Beach, Fla.) with a game-high 15 kills, nine digs and three blocks. Sophomore middle hitter Marissa Turner added eight kills and nine digs and a game-high six aces.

Against Wentworth, Mack and freshman middle hitter Lindsey McNiff (Kingston, R.I.) each recorded a team-high five kills in the match. Bolton dished out a team-high 14 assists with three aces and two kills. Searles had four kills and eight digs, while Larvey grabbed nine digs.

Wentworth was paced by freshman outside hitter Sydney Meyers (Arnold, Md.) with a game-high 10 kills. Junior outside hitter Hannah Bailey (Plymouth, Mass.) contributed nine kills and eight digs, and senior libero Sam Curran (Quincy, Mass.) had a game-high 12 digs and a game-high seven aces.

The Blazers move to 4-15 on the season, and 1-2 in NECC play, while Becker improves to 5-16, and Wentworth sits at 12-9 overall. Elms will return to the court in a home NECC matchup against Regis College Wednesday night. Gametime is slated for 7:00 p.m.
