Newbury Spoils Women's Volleyball Senior Day

CHICOPEE,  Mass. – The Elms College women's volleyball team dropped a three-setter to visiting Newbury College, 3-0 (15-25, 19-25, 20-25), in a New England Collegiate Conference match at Picknelly Arena Saturday afternoon.

Prior to the match, the Blazers honored their three departing seniors: Caitlin Larvey (Greenfield, Mass.), JC Pickett (Chicopee, Mass.), and Christine Searles (Tolland, Mass.)

The Blazers were paced by Searles, who posted team-high in kills with 13 and digs with 18, for her eighth double-double of the season. Junior outside hitter Alex Mack (Wilbraham, Mass.) added seven kills and 13 digs, while freshman right side Ashlee Connors (West Springfield, Mass.) chipped in four kills. Junior setter Shannon Bolton (Shelton, Conn.) dished out 13 assists, while freshman setter Jessica Martin (Southwick, Mass.) doled out 10 assists off the bench.

The Nighthawks were led by freshman outside hitter Lina Miranda (Brockton, Mass.) with a game-high 14 kills with four digs. Sophomore middle hitter Courtney Banks (Corona, Calif.) registered eight kills, seven digs and two blocks, while freshman outside hitter Maya Umoren (Quincy, Mass.) had seven kills. Setter Heather Parish tallied a game-high 31 assists in the win for Newbury.

The Blazers dropped to 4-17 overall and 1-4 in the NECC, while Newbury improved to 14-7, and 4-1 on the season. Elms will look to move back into the win column in an NECC matchup at Daniel Webster College Tuesday night. Newbury returns to action against Lesley University on Tuesday.
