Women's Volleyball Battles Bay Path in Five Sets

HOLYOKE, Mass. – The Elms College women's volleyball team fell in a five-set New England Collegiate Conference battle to host Bay Path College, 3-2 (25-20, 24-25, 25-22, 23-25, 14-16), at the Bartley Center on the campus of Holyoke Community College Saturday afternoon.

The Blazers were led by a career-high 20 kills from senior outside hitter Christine Searles (Tolland, Mass.), who added 17 digs, three aces and two blocks. Junior outside hitter Alexandra Mack (Wilbraham, Mass.) tallied 10 kills with nine digs and four aces, while junior setter Shannon Bolton (Shelton, Conn.) recorded 29 assists and 11 digs. Senior libero Caitlyn Larvey (Greenfield, Mass.) grabbed a team-high 20 digs, and freshman middle hitter Kate Moriarty (Agawam, Mass.) had four kills and a block.

Bay Path had two players in double-digit kill totals, paced by a match-high 22 kills from freshman middle hitter Lauren Vallee (Bristol, Conn.). Vallee added 20 digs, while junior middle hitter Elizabeth Haylette (Terryville, Conn.) chipped in 15 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore setter Aaliyah Gordon (Springfield, Mass.) dished out a match-high 38 assists, while senior libero Kacie Bayreuther (East Lyme, Conn.) snared a match-high 37 digs.

Elms slips to 5-19 on the season, and 2-5 in the NECC, while Bay Path improves to 4-17 overall, and 1-6 in NECC play. The Blazers will be back on the court for their regular season finale at Mitchell College Saturday November 1st at 5:00 p.m. Bay Path hosts Becker College in their finale Wednesday night.
