Women's Soccer Comes Up Short In GNAC Battle With Emmanuel

CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms College Women's Soccer team came up short in their first conference action of the year on Leary Field vs Emmanuel College.

Emmanuel College tested the Blazers early in the first half, but Elm's junior goalkeeper Angela Picheo (wood-Ridge, NJ) denied four shots in the first half to preserve a scoreless tie. The Saints controlled the shot column in the first half, 11-0.

Emmanuel College started off the half with a goal by Addie Legault (Farmington, CT) assisted by Sydney Sears (Jericho, VT), putting the Saints up 1-0 in the 47th minute.

Elms sophomore Caroline Wilcox (Pomfret Center, CT) and Kayla Pasquel (North Attleboro, MA) had attempts early in the second half, but both went just wide of the goal. In the 68th minute of action, Kelly Malheiro had a shot on goal that was saved by goalkeeper Patricia Kirejczyk (Ansonia, CT), but Elms junior Emily Maffuccio (Pittsfield, MA) had a chance to put back the rebound but got deflected wide. Pasquel and Wilcox ended the absence of shots for the Blazers, adding three more by the end of the contest.

The Blazers battled a hard game, despite the hard work they were unable to beat the Saints in the first conference game of the season.

The Blazers will return to play on Wednesday September 14th in Rhode Island at Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex against the Johnson & Wales Wildcats.
