Blazers Cruise To 4-0 Win Over Bay Path

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College women's soccer team dominated from start to finish in a 4-0 win over cross-town rival Bay Path at Leary Field on Wednesday night.

The Blazers improve to 10-5-1 overall with the win and 6-1-0 in New England Collegiate Conference play while Bay Path drops to 6-6-1 overall and 2-5-0 in the NECC.

It took just over 10 minutes for Elms to grab the lead as Shannon Ryan (Leeds, Mass.) scored with an assist from Kelsey Shea (Belchertown, Mass.) at the 10:40 mark in the first half. Shannon Denault (Chicopee, Mass.) added Elms second goal with help from Gigi Thibault (South Hadley, Mass.) to put Elms ahead 2-0 mid-way through the half, and Thibault headed in a goal of her own later in the half to give the Blazers a 3-0 advantage at the break.

Elms freshman Sydney Goodwin (Lawrence, Mass.) scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season in the second half, with an assist from Jaime Cerrato (Carver, Mass.), for the decisive 4-0 victory. The Blazers have now won their last five NECC contests.

Elms had a 15-2 advantage in shots in the game, including 11-2 in shots on-goal. The Blazers also attempted the only three corner kicks of the evening. Blazer goalkeeper Rebecca Molin (West Hartford, Conn.) needed two saves for the shutout victory while counterpart Caitlyn Esposito (East Haven, Conn.) made seven saves for the Wildcats.

Wednesday's game was the regular-season home finale for Elms, which will visit New England College (Oct. 20) and Eastern Nazarene (Oct. 24) to close out league play. Bay Path will visit Mitchell on Oct. 20.
